In the search for a “container” to accommodate the contemporary lifestyle of mid-sized families in Cantonments – one of the most affluent suburbs in Accra, CT Gardens explores and reinterprets the Ghanaian courtyard typology while responding to the city’s needs to provide and reconnect with green spaces. The project comprises a cluster of single-family homes with private and shared gardens designed to reinforce a sense of neighborhood. The application of several passive design techniques combined with a reduced material composition does not only give the project its unique character, but also marks its sensitivity to environmental and economic sustainability.
